About tech.org.au
tech.org.au exists for a simple reason: most people do not need a technician, they need a clear answer they can trust. This site gives everyday Australians that answer, for free.
Who runs it
tech.org.au is written and edited by Angus Lewington, who has spent years helping family, friends and small businesses solve the kind of tech problems that do not need an expensive callout. Somewhere along the way it became clear that the same handful of questions come up again and again: why is my computer so slow, is my phone hacked, how do I free up space, why does the wifi drop out. This site is the answer to those questions, written down properly and kept up to date.
Why it is free
tech.org.au is a free, not-for-profit community resource, supported by the Australian technology business Alien IT. There is no paywall. We do not sell devices, we do not run affiliate links, and we never accept payment to mention or rank a product. When we recommend something, it is simply what we would tell a member of our own family. When the best answer is a free government service like Scamwatch or the eSafety Commissioner, we send you there rather than keeping you on our page. You can read exactly how we are funded.
What we do, and what we never do
We publish guidance: what to do, in what order, and when an official service like Scamwatch, ReportCyber or IDCARE is the right next step. We do not handle individual cases, investigate incidents, or act on anyone’s behalf, and nothing here is legal or financial advice. The disclaimer spells this out.
How to know it is really us
We never contact you first. We never ask you for money. We never offer to recover money or accounts for a fee. Anyone doing any of those things in our name is an impersonator: hang up, delete the message, and report it to Scamwatch.
How it stays trustworthy
Technology changes, so a guide that was right last year can quietly go stale. To keep the advice honest, every guide carries a last updated date, and we revise steps as apps and settings change. You will never find invented numbers or fake reviews here. If we do not know something, we say so.
